Meet the Owner
Hello, my name is Joseph (Joe) Chumley and I am the owner of Chumley Construction, LLC. More importantly I am a husband to my wife Lindsey, and a father to my two daughters Grace & Noelle, with a 3rd on the way! We live in Puyallup, and enjoy spending time with our girls, family, and friends, and are active in our church.
I grew up as an ‘Eastie’ in the Yakima Valley until I graduated high school when I decided to try out Southern California for a change of scenery, trying to figure out my plan as a young man. After working a couple of short term jobs, I knew I had to move back Washington State…but this time, to the greener side. Within a week’s time I was employed and performing tasks for a small framing company building Hiline homes, which was a perfect start for me. I was immediately hooked! I always knew I wanted to own a business one day, even hearing stories from my grandparents recalling how I wanted to be an “ultra-manure”! Okay, I was about 6 or 7 and couldn’t quite pronounce entrepreneur, but obviously I had my mind made up!
Growth in the Business
I’ve been in the building industry since 2004 and have enjoyed the past 15 years of learning new skills from the craftsman side and now the business side. My wife and I married in 2010, and the next summer I set out to start my business as Chumley Construction, LLC. It has come with some amazing highs, and some very challenging lows. If life is hard, running a business is harder, and yet I wouldn’t have it any other way!
My favorite part of the business has morphed over the years from the physical projects I was working on, now to the people-side and the relationships I am building with my employees. We have made a concerted effort to bring in young workers and train them, mentor them, and grow the business from that standpoint. There is no greater feeling as a businessman, a helper, a coach, a leader, as the moment that the “lightbulb” goes off and a young worker “gets it.” There is an old saying that you can feed a man a fish and feed him for a day, or teach a man to fish and feed him for life.

So, why did I name the company ‘Chumley Construction’ and not some generic company name? Because I felt (and still feel today) that your reputation means something. If I can lead a company that has my personal name attached to it, then that would be a reminder that accountability and responsibility would be cornerstones to what I’m hoping to build. I am a family man, I care deeply about what we do as an organization, and desire that my company’s name and reputation is synonymous with respect, fairness, trustworthiness, and doing the right thing.
